(St. Gallen & São Paulo).- Technical teams from the Ministries of Sport and Finance took part on Thursday (15) in Brasilia in a training session organised by Sportradar on the manipulation and monitoring of sports betting.

Brazilian Government promotes training organized by Sportradar to curb fraud in sports results

The training is part of the Co-operation Agreement signed on Wednesday (14) between the MEsp and the Swiss entity, with the aim of helping to combat fraud in sports results in Brazil.

"The constant training of civil servants is fundamental. Today's action is just one of the initiatives in this direction. Sportradar is one of the entities with which we have signed cooperation agreements, and it and the other four companies are among the leading organisations operating in Brazil and around the world. Today we are addressing manipulation in football, which is the great passion of Brazilians, but our concern is with the integrity of all national sport. Training will be ongoing, not only for civil servants, but soon also for athletes," said the National Secretary for Sports Betting and the Economic Development of Sport, Giovanni Rocco Neto.

Officials from the Ministry of Sport and the Undersecretariat for Inspection of the Secretariat for Prizes and Betting (SPA) of the Ministry of Finance took part in the activity.

Sportradar is a leading Swiss company in sports data technology, with a strong presence in the area of sports integrity. Through a monitoring system, the company analyses thousands of sporting events a year to detect anomalous behaviour that could indicate manipulation of results.

"We are building ideas and policies together to combat this phenomenon, which is so complex not only in our country, but throughout Latin America and the entire world. We gave a general overview of the market in Brazil and around the world, a conceptualisation of manipulation, and covered the technical side of how the monitoring of games and sports betting works," explained Sportradar's Integrity Director for Latin America, Felippe Marchetti.

Marchetti also added: : “It’s encouraging to see the government mobilizing to fight match-fixing — a problem that requires constant vigilance and directly impacts the credibility of sports. Today marks another important step forward, building on the agreement signed in 2024 with the Ministry of Finance, which enables the sharing of information and the technical training of teams within the Secretariat of Prizes and Betting. Providing trainings like this one, aimed at public officials, is essential to expanding institutional knowledge on the topic. It’s gratifying to see the Ministries engaged in this cause and to be part of the joint development of such a relevant initiative for the country.”

Cooperation
The Ministry of Sport has signed Cooperation Agreements (CAs) with five entities specialising in monitoring and integrity in the sector: Sport Integrity Global Alliance (SIGA), International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA), Sportradar, Bets and Fantasy Sport Association (ABFS) and Genius Sports. The partnerships are aimed at preventing and combating match-fixing, fraud and other practices detrimental to sporting integrity.
